Wheel alignments are very important for the 190/195’s. This is especially true when operating on hard surface airports. We have found many poor handling airplanes with poorly aligned main gear. There are many factors that affect wheel alignment. Aircraft weight, gear box damage, gear leg damage or sag from cycles, shims and tire pressures all have an input to the wheel alignment and/or aircraft ground behavior. If you have a locking tailwheel that is not properly aligned or a tail strut not vertical you will also feel directionally challenged. We have all of the factory shims plus some custom designed shims. These custom shims are necessary to get the camber back into range that has been lost due to gear leg sagging. Our custom in house worksheet has helped our speed and accuracy with wheel alignments. If your airplane has any ground handling “issues”, alignment is probably the culprit.
NOTE: If the gear legs have been removed, plan on a second alignment after several flights due to the gear legs finding there home within the box mounts. Also light gear legs are next to impossible to predict. They move around a lot! so much that we can not guarantee how long an alignment will last.
